A touch of Moroccan style

Nadia and Souad Lakhdar brought a flavour of Morocco to The Bride Show Dubai ramps with their fashion show on the opening day. The two sisters have been designing Arabic garments for over a decade. “I live in Dubai and Nadia lives in Morocco but we always get together while working on a collection. All our creations have a Moroccan touch and they are all ‘made in Morocco’,” said Souad, who runs an haute couture atelier here.

The duo showcased a collection of special-occasion jellabiyas and evening gowns. The collection was strikingly colourful with multicoloured abstract prints in silk and satin overlayered with black velvet embroidered with floral motifs. While the soft, flowing silhouettes were quintessentially Arabic, the designers had experimented with a variety of cuts using embroidered belts and crossover ties at the back to create more fitted looks.

Besides traditional Moroccan embroidery, the garments were embellished with lace, gold trims, multicoloured buttons, colourful geometric patches and interesting thread tassels. The designers also showcased a collection of chiffon gowns and kaftan dresses in floral and animal prints.
