Sharjah park work nears completion
AL MONTAZAH PARK, FORMERLY AL JAZEERA PARK, IS READIED FOR SOFT LAUNCH EARLY NEXT YEAR AFTER MAKEOVER
Development work in Sharjah’s Al Montazah Park, previously known as Al Jazeera Park, is 80 per cent complete as the new project is set for a soft opening early next year, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority ( Shurooq) has announced.
Shaikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Shurooq who recently inspected the progress of the park, pointed out that the project adds to Sharjah’s tourist landmarks as the emirate has become a destination for family tourism. The new Al Montazah Park will be a regional tourist attraction including stateof- the- art facilities, and high quality services mainly targeting families living in the UAE and abroad.
Shaikha Bodour has issued instructions to accelerate the development of the park to make it a more sophisticated and modern tourist destination that meets worldwide standards.
Natural attractions
The park is expected to add to the emirate’s natural attractions and stimulate the tourism sector, she added, pointing out the success of Sharjah’s projects in the Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Qasba, and in the Heart of Sharjah.
Commonly known as Al Jazeera Park, the park which was opened in 1979 is undergoing a makeover as a result of its popularity and convenient location. Covering 13,000 square metres, the park is situated on an island in the Khalid Lagoon opposite the Sharjah Central Market.
The new work plan for the park which started in mid- 2012 has been implemented through collaboration between Shurooq and a number of government and private agencies. Thirtytwo years after its opening, the park, which will reopen in a few months, continues to be a favourite haunt of families, especially during the winter months.
