Dubai International’s October passenger traffic up 15.1%
Marking the airport’s tenth consecutive month with more than 5m travellers
Passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport in October increased 15.1 per cent compared to the same period last year, its operator said yesterday.
According to a Dubai Airports statement, the world’s second busiest hub for international passengers had 5,667,698 passengers pass through the airport in October compared to the 4,923,246 in the same month in 2012.
It was the airport’s tenth consecutive month with more than 5 million travellers, Dubai Airports stated.
Year- to- date traffic at Dubai International now totals 55,046,873, a 15.9 per cent jump over the 47,488,586 in the same period last year.
‘ Better than expected’
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said in a statement that the growth in passenger traffic at Dubai International was “better than expected” so far this year and that the airport is “on track to exceed the projected annual figure of 65.4 million by a margin”.
Eastern Europe had a 55.5 per cent increase in passenger growth compared to the same 2012 period, while Australasia passenger traffic grew by 41.3 per cent.
Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States grew 22.7 per cent, while the Asia Pacific increased by 21.4 per cent.
Despite significant growth in other markets, Western Europe recorded the largest increase in passenger numbers with a jump of 159,278, according to the airport body.
Aircraft movements in October rose 9.1 per cent to 32,279 from the 29,578 in the same month in 2012.
Year- to- date movements totalled 305,596, up 7.8 per cent from 283,551 movements between January and October 2012.
