Latifa Hospital increases neonatal ward capacity

Sixteen beds to be added to the neonatal ICU ward in six months

-

Latifa Hospital’s neonatal ward will have increased capacity in six months following an expansion project costing Dh26 million.

Sixteen beds will be added to the Neonatal ICU ward of Latifa Hospital, which currently has 48 beds. The expansion project was made possible through a donation by the Majid Al Futtaim Charity Foundation.

Engineer Eisa Al Maidour, Dubai Health Authority ( DHA) Director General, Prof. Najeeb Al Khaja, CEO of the Majid Al Futtaim Charity Foundation, Dr Abdulla Al Khayat, CEO of Latifa Hospital, and other senior officials attended the launch ceremony of the expansion project on Sunday.

Al Maidour said the expansion will lessen the in- creasing burden on the Neonatal ICU ward, which is currently working over 130 per cent its capacity.

Al Maidour lauded the foundation’s positive role in supporting the healthcare sector, which reflects the true partnership between the government sector and civil service societies in meeting increasing individual healthcare needs.

Premature babies

Dr Al Khayat said the additional beds will aid the services Latifa Children’s Hospital offers to premature babies, particularly those in Dubai and the northern emirates, since these services are considered a rare specialisation in the nation.

Dr Al Khayat said that the expansion project will be constructed as per the latest specifications of quality and safety in this field. He stressed that the expansion was badly needed to alleviate the increasing burden off the Neonatal ICU.
