Shaun Kachroo of Maxtalent Cricket Academy cracked a century as touring teams from the academy turned in creditable performances against some of the best teams in Mumbai.

It was yet another successful tour for the youngsters in the Maxtalent Under- 17 team, who reached the semi- finals of the MGS Challenge Cup playing alongside top cricket clubs in Mumbai such as Amre Cricket Club, MIG, PJ Hindu Gymkhana, Sainath Cricket Club and Payyade Cricket Club although Kachroo’s century went in vain against the formidable Sainath Club.

Kachroo’s century put him alongside a list of current India Under- 19 players who came into the limelight with centuries in the tournament. Kachroo follows the likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Shreyas Iyer and Akhil Herwadkar and UAE under- 19 stars Jay Joshi, Justin James, Dan D’souza, Shorye Chopra and Chirag Suri.

Kachroo, a wicketkeeperbatsman who idolises AB De Villiers, said: “I aspire to follow in De Villiers’ footsteps through hard work and achieve the kind of skill he possesses. My ultimate goal is to represent the UAE.”

During Maxtalent’s tour to the United Kingdom, Kachroo had scored an unbeaten 100 against Stoke Abbonon Club, Surrey.

The MGS challenge Cup, which is in its seventh season, saw Amre Club completing a hat- trick. MIG cricket Club finished runners- up for the third time in three years.

In the under- 13 category, Maxtalent were adjudged the runners- up while MCF club lifted the winner’s trophy.

Commenting on the tour, Sudhakar Shetty, the chief coach of the academy, said: “The attitude of the Mumbai lads and the culture has rubbed on to our boys and their body language and approach on the field is strong and confident now.”
