Ducks top NHL with overtime win over Canucks

Perry’s last- gasp winner lifts Anaheim as Chicago lose ground with defeat to San Jose in shootout

Anaheim took over the NHL lead with an overtime win against Vancouver on Sunday as previous leaders Chicago were beaten at home by San Jose in a shootout.

Also on Sunday, Pittsburgh matched a club record with a 12th straight home win, defeating Winnipeg in an 11- goal thriller.

San Jose’s Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski scored in the shootout to give the Sharks a 3- 2 win and their first victory at Chicago in three years. Jason Demers scored in the first period and Brett Burns had a tying goal in the third for the Sharks.

Defencemen Niklas Hjalmarsso­n and Michal Rozsival scored in the third period for the Blackhawks, who have earned at least one point in their past 10 games.

Chicago are level on points with Anaheim but have played one more game than the Ducks, who found a winning goal with just 1.3 seconds left in overtime, clinching a 4- 3 win over Vancouver.

Corey Perry scored his NHLleading eighth game- winning goal of the season just as a shootout was looming. The Ducks have not suffered a regulation- time loss at home this season, becoming the third team in NHL history to go at least 19 games without a blemish.

Nick Bonino scored the tying goal with 1: 27 left in regulation, while Saku Koivu and Matt Beleskey scored in the second period for the Ducks, who have won 13 of their past 14 games. Ryan Kesler and Henrik Sedin scored power- play goals two minutes apart in the first, and defenseman Kevin Bieksa scored in the third for the Canucks.

Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin scored twice on his return from a nine- game injury absence, helping the Penguins edge Winnipeg 6- 5.

James Neal added two goals for Pittsburgh, Jussi Jokinen scored his third goal in two games, and Matt Niskanen put in the winner with less than eight minutes left.

Coach Dan Bylsma won his 232nd game with Pittsburgh, moving into a tie with Eddie Johnston for the most victories in franchise history.
