All 11 new private schools in Dubai, which will provide 23,000 more seats, will open by September 28. Although the Ministry of Education issued a decree stating all schools must start the 201415 academic year on August 31, these schools received approval by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority ( KHDA) to open later this month.

AbdulRahmanNasser, chief of customer relations atKHDA, said the authoritywill monitor developments at the newschools.

“Every school will be open for the requirednumber of days in line with their curriculum. Some have already opened, whilst a few will open later in the month, according to their pre- approved calendars. We are in direct communication with the managements,” he said.

Of the 11 new schools, eight will follow the British curriculum, two of which will be combined with International Baccalaureate. Two schoolswill follow the Indian curriculum. The first Canadian school in Dubai will also open thismonth.

The new schools are CredenceHigh School, Bilva Indian School, GEMS FirstPoint — The Villa, Kings Nad Al Sheba, Kings Al Barsha expected to open by GEMS Metropole expected to open by Safa Community School to open by Dovecote Green Primary School to open by Capital School: Primary and foundation stage will open this month against potential flooding. Our priority has to be safety and we will not compromise on this or the quality of our offering.”

The spokesperson said due to the delay it was not possible for all the school sections to be ready on the opening date.

Priority sections

“We believe that rather than delay opening, it is better to focus on the priority sections so that all children can be accommodated from day one. The areas delayed include sufficient outdoor facilities at both schools and secondary classrooms at Al Barsha for a short period of time. Alternative classroom provision has been made for the secondary school students in the primary section of the campus.”

Margaret Atack, group senior director of education at GEMS Education, said GEMSwill open two new schools in Dubai this year, GEMS FirstPoint School, located in The Villa development, and GEMS Metropole School, in Motor City.

“Both schools are opening on time – as promised to parents and pupils. Our Metropole students will start on September 7 and GEMS FirstPoint students will start their academic year on September 21. The enrolments at the two new schools have passed 1,200 students.”
