The Vice- President of Tennis Emirates ( TE) is pleased with the preparations towards organising the International Tennis Federation ( ITF) Annual General Meeting ( AGM) in Dubai later this month.

Scheduled to be held from September 16- 18 under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, Dubai Sports Council ( DSC), the annual meeting of the ITF will bring together nearly 200 top officials from the world of tennis.

The AGM of the ITF will be held at the Madinat Jumeirah Hotel and Abdul Rahman Falaknaz, Vice- President of Tennis Emirates, is pleased to see that everything is in place to host such an important event in the UAE.

“The local organising committee has been working tirelessly since the past few months to prepare and host a successful session of the AGM of the ITF in Dubai. After the formation of the main organising committee, we have assigned roles to sub- committees who have been meeting regularly to ensure the smooth preparation for the event,” Falaknaz noted.

Draw ceremony

One of the highlights at the conclusion of the AGM will be the draw for the 2015 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas.

With all the Davis Cup Playoff ties of the 2014 edition concluding on September 14, top officials from the ITF will be in attendance at the draw ceremony the following week to decide who meets whom in the opening round of the 2015 edition, at the Madinat Jumeirah Hotel, on September 18.

Another highlight during the AGM will be an attempt to set a first- time Guinness World Record by creating a mosaic using tennis balls to depict the three- finger victory sign of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Guinness World Record attempt will be held at the events arena of Jumeirah Beach Hotel at 5.30pm on September 17.

“A lot of emphasis is being laid down on the social aspect of such an event whereby the delegates will, not only, be involved in fruitful discussions but, also, get a great opportunity to witness the traditions of the UAE and observe, firsthand, the immense growth and progress of the country in such a small period of time,” Falaknaz said.

Backed by Tennis Emirates, the Ministry of Interior, Dubai Sports Council, General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, Road and Transport Authority, Dubai Convention Bureau and Jumeirah Beach Hotel, among others, this is the very first time that the ITF is hosting its AGM in West Asia and the Arab world following its grand centenary celebrations in Paris last year.
