5-member gang arrested for series of thefts in Fujairah

METAL SAFE, ATM MACHINE AND MONEY STOLEN FROM AN EXCHANGE

Agang of five men has been arrested on charges of theft, including stealing an ATM machine. Fujairah Police said that the gang was involved in multiple thefts in Fujairah and neighbouri­ng areas using a luxury car.

The gang, which consisted of four Emiratis and one Asian, stole cash from a money exchange, a metal safe from a constructi­on company, one ATM machine and attempted to steal another and a money deposit machine that belonged to a telecommun­ication company.

The details of the incidents go back to January, when the Fujairah Police Operations Room received calls about a money exchange in Fujairah in which someone had stolen dirhams and some other currencies, and someone stealing a safe from a constructi­on company, which was fortunatel­y empty, in addition to an attempt to steal an ATM machine from a national bank.

In February, the gang stole an ATM machine from Dibba Al Fujairah, which contained Dh753,100, and a money deposit machine that belonged to a telecommun­ication company, which contained Dh14,500.

Teams from the police studied the criminal methods used in those thefts, and a team was formed to track the culprits.

Fujairah Police arrested Emiratis H.R.A., A.R.A., A.S.Sh., H.S.A. and Asian M.K.A., and found one of them in possession of Dh253,100, in addition to some foreign currency.

One of the suspects had also bought a car costing Dh195,000 with the stolen money.

Luxury car used

The two cars, the luxury car used in the robberies, and the one bought with the stolen money, as well as the stolen money, were confiscate­d and the suspects were transferre­d to the Public Prosecutio­n.

Col Humaid Mohammad Al Yamahi, Director of Police Operations at Fujairah Police, thanked Abu Dhabi and Dubai police for their cooperatio­n.
