Woman gets life sentence for her husband’s murder

LIFE IN JAIL FOR ONE ACCOMPLICE AND CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR ANOTHER

An Emirati woman will serve life in prison for killing her Emirati lawyer husband as will her Pakistani driver but a third Emirati accomplice will be executed for his role in the death in May last year.

The verdict was announced yesterday morning in Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court.

A court official explained that the wife and her driver were spared the death sentence because it was the third Emirati accomplice who provided the medical tools to attempt to kill the husband by injection, thereby playing the instigating role in the crime.

The so-called third man also tied the husband’s listless body and carried it to the lawyer’s car before it was driven to a nearby cliff and pushed over the edge into the valley which, the court heard, killed the victim — not the injection of insulin.

When the verdict was read out in the court, the woman collapsed and began screaming.

The woman’s lawyer revealed that the sentence will be appealed.

Meanwhile, all heirs of the victim have pardoned the mother, waiving their rights to retribution.

The 54-year-old Emirati lawyer was found dead in his car after the vehicle plunged into the Dafta valley, south of Ras Al Khaimah city, on May 21, 2014.

After a week-long investigation, Ras Al Khaimah Police took the three accused — the Emirati woman, an Emirati man and a Pakistani driver — into custody.

It was initially thought the man had died from an insulin overdose, but forensic tests revealed he had died from injuries sustained in the car crash. Police found a fracture in the spine of the deceased.

During questioning, the victim’s wife denied any involvement in the crime, while her two accomplices admitted they were involved in killing the man.

‘Quarrelled frequently’

Investigations suggested the deceased and his wife who lived in Fujairah along with their children, used to quarrel frequently.

During questioning the wife revealed she gave her husband insulin injections and, with the other man’s help, carried his body to the living room to show that his death was normal. Later, she changed her mind and decided to put his body in a car and send it crashing into the valley.

According to police, she paid Dh100,000 to the accomplice.
