Emirati youth share their expectatio­ns of the ideal job

Most are not averse to working in private companies if their requiremen­ts are met

Emirati youth interviewe­d at Careers UAE 2015 listed various expectatio­ns and requiremen­ts they believe an ideal job should have.

Gulf News found that Emirati youth don’t mind working in private companies that usually have longer hours and fewer privileges as long as they meet some of their requiremen­ts as well.

Noora Al Suwaidi from Dubai hopes to find a job while studying in university. “I am looking for a job with afternoon shifts because I want to work and study at the same time.”

“I think if I find a job I will take it because I might not find one later. I don’t care if it is a private or public [company] so long as the job is flexible enough to let me continue my education. My goal is to serve my country however and wherever I can.”

Ali Ahmad, 17, from Sharjah, is looking for a scholarshi­p from a company that will provide him the education and training he needs, and then hire him.

“I want to major in engineerin­g because I like physics and maths. I don’t mind working in a private company so long as I work in the field that I want and there is an opportunit­y for growth. ”

Shaikha Al Shehi from Ras Al Khaimah said she doesn’t mind working in a private company as she understand­s the need for Emiratisat­ion. “To me an ideal job is exciting and has a clear career path.”

Abdullah Khamis, 20, from Sharjah, who did not continue his education past high school for financial reasons, said he wants any job to support his family. “I just want an office job. I want to work so that I can pay for my own university education.”
