My degree is 100% genuine — Tomar

Delhi law minister under fire over certificate, insists he will not resign

-

Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar said yesterday his degree was 100 per cent genuine and there was no reason for him to resign over the issue.

“My degree is 100 per cent genuine. I have all the documents to prove it so I will not resign from the post,” the minister said at a press conference here over the fake degree allegations.

Earlier yesterday, Congress leader Ajay Maken said on Twitter: “AAP Delhi law minister’s law degree found fake. Should be sacked immediately and vacate assembly seat for fresh election!”

The comments came after a Bihar-based university from where Tomar claimed to have obtained his degree, on Monday told the Delhi High Court that the provisional certificate was not “genuine” and “does not exist in the university’s record”.

The serial number of the certificate in the record showed the name of some other person and not of Tomar, according to the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bihar.

Petitions were not the ground to claim anyone’s resignation, Tomar said.

“Soon truth will be in front of everyone. I did nothing wrong. My degrees are real. The court will decide it [truth],” the minister said.

Denying charges that his provisional certificate was “fabricated”, Tomar said he would soon get all the records and make everything clear.

“All the allegations made against me are baseless. If I would have committed anything wrong then I would not have been constantly coming to my office. Very soon I will get all my records from the university and make everything clear,” Tomar told reporters in the Delhi secretariat.

Tomar also holds the portfolios of tourism, art and culture, as well as home.
