Al Futtaim Motors Toyota beat Unicon to lift Hamriya Cup

Hosts Mavericks to take on Dubai Mammoths in Ring of Fire T20 final

A l Futtaim Motors’ Toyota Cricket Team continued to dominate Hamriya Cricket tournament in Sharjah, where they beat Unicon by 27 runs to win the title.

Batting first, Al Futtaim posted a challengin­g total of 179 in 20 overs. Unicon began their chase well — maintainin­g a good run rate till they lost a few quick wickets. Salman Randhawa turned in an all-round performanc­e for the winners, first hitting an unbeaten 33 and then taking three wickets to be declared the Man of the Match.

Speaking to Gulf News, Mohammad Farooque, the captain of the Al Futtaim team said: “We owe our victory to our fantastic display of team work and practice after our office hours. We have been doing well and winning trophies are a boost to work even harder and we hope to win more tournament­s in the future.”

Meanwhile, the Dubai Cricket Council’s Mavericks Ring of Fire Twenty20 tournament has reached the final stages with host Mavericks Cricket Club taking on Dubai Mammoths in the final scheduled for May 29 at the Dubai Internatio­nal Cricket stadium.

The matches which is being held under the ring of fire lighting to highlight this unique facility of the stadium, has produced keen contests. The finalists are the teams that finished on top of two from among the six-teams. Dubai Mammoths kept recording mammoth victories over their opponent. Crushing ABB Smashers by 91 runs they registered their fifth successive win, while Mavericks, whose only defeat came against Mammoths, galloped to an eight-wicket win over bottom-placed Dubai Stallions.

In another Dubai Cricket Council tournament, the Power Horse T20 tournament at the Fair Ground Oval in Dubai Men’s College at the Academic City, organised by Power Horse Energy Drinks and managed by CricOn Sports Services, batsmen hogged the limelight with Chargers Cricket Club and Gourmet Cricket Club recording comfortabl­e victories.

Chargers charged to a five wicket win over Emirates NBD chasing NBD’s 160 for five in 20 overs despite an unbeaten half century from Anoop Nair. In reply, Charges despite a poor start losing two quick wickets Ibtesham through his 16 balls knock of 32 with four boundaries and two sixes ensured the victory.
