Shaikh Rashid Bin Ammar and Al Forsan in quarter-finals

Say No To Drugs, Blue Wave top in Group B at Maktoum Ramadan football

Shaikh Rashid Bin Ammar team and Al Forsan confirmed their spots for the quarter-finals of the Fifth Maktoum Bin Rashid Ramadan Football Championsh­ip late on Sunday.

Unbeaten throughout the group stages, the Shaikh Rashid team and Al Forsan settled for a 3-3 draw in their last Group A match. The team from Ajman topped the group with 13 points while Al Forsan finished second with ten to book their places for the knockout stages of the competitio­n.

Mohammad nets 21 goals

The biggest result in the history of the tournament, however came when Nojoom Shabia slammed their way to a 21-10 win against Al Nokba. The result did not have any implicatio­ns on the final placings in the group except that Ali Mohammad may end up as the highest scorer of the tournament after scoring all 21 goals in his side’s futile win.

In Group B, the Blue Wave team and Say No To Drugs earning their spots in the knockout stages. Blue Wave got the better of Al Khawaneej 4-2 to take their tally to nine points, while Say No To Drugs ended second in the group with eight points.

Al Amid and Al Khawaneej ended with an identical five points while Dubai Star failed to get off the mark and Al Amez Group were thrown out of the competitio­n after failing to turn up for two of their group matches.

The last round of preliminar­y matches was scheduled to be held late on Monday after which the tournament will take a one-day break and resume with the quarter-finals today.
