Britney Spears strikes back at Iggy Azalea

-

Oof. The Iggy Azalea-as-Persona-Non-Grata tour continues.

On Monday night, Britney Spears, who partnered with Azalea on their latest single Pretty Girls, tweeted a message that seemed aimed specifically at Azalea:

“Can’t wait to get back to Vegas. So thankful I have shows for the rest of the year to look forward to #YouWantAPieceOfMe”

Azalea, as we all know, was forced to delay, then cancel, her first arena tour thanks to meagre ticket sales and failing to secure an opening act.

Unwilling to blame the lack of success for the single on her own tanking career, Azalea explained that the song fizzled out because of lack of promotion during a Twitter Q&A on Monday. And she appeared to blame Spears by explaining that Azalea was only “featured” on the song.

Later Azalea responded to a tweet asserting that she’d “shaded” Spears with this: “my comment is factual, it applies to any song. I dont have to suck the womans [rear end] 24/7 to be her friend, do i? bye girls [sic].”

Never mind that she and Spears gave an obviously lip-synched performance of Pretty Girls for the Billboard Awards — it was promptly forgotten thanks to Taylor Swift and the premiere of the Bad Blood video, and then utterly buried by Nicki Minaj and Beyonce’s release of Feeling Myself.

This may not be the first time Spears has voiced her displeasure with Azalea on social media. Folks on high Britney alert noticed back in May that she “liked” a modified version of the Pretty Girls single art on Instagram. No big deal, right? Except that Azalea had been replaced with a bag of trash.
