- Staff Report

Budding cricketers from Maxtalent Global Sports returned stronger in experience after a tour of Mumbai recently.

Playing in the ninth edition of the MGS Bisleri Challenge Cup against strong teams like Payyade Cricket Club, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, Amre Cricket Club, Poinsur Gymkhana, Mandpeshwar Civic Foundation (MCF), they returned after countering the challenges on the slow turning tracks of Mumbai.

In the first match, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana posted 282 runs in 30 overs, while Cricket Maxway replied with 198 runs in 25 overs — thanks largely to Shifran Mulla’s 48 and Karan Menon hitting 66 runs.

In match against Poinsur Gymkhana, Shifran continued his form and hit 92 runs in 57 balls but Cricket Maxway innings buckled for 178 runs with six more overs to spare. MCF Borivli won the trophy beating three times champion Amre Cricket Club. The exposure and experience gained by Cricket Maxway assisted the team big time in rest of the tour’s competitive matches, as the team upset L R Tairsee team by an over to spare in a T20 match. Max Way won against Pravin Gogi team with two overs to spare.

However, Cricket Maxway narrowly lost to Lalchand Rajput Cricket Academy in the penultimate ball of the match. Abijith Kumar emerged the Player of the Tour Trophy for his all-round performance bagging 10 wickets and scoring 123 runs. Shifran Mulla scoring 193 runs bagged the best batsman award.

In the boys Under-13 event, Chris Sequeira, the captain of Cricket Maxway, produced fantastic all round performance, Angad Arvind and Sowrab Kaesri with Chris also made their presence felt through half centuries and a couple of 40s. Cricket Maxway finished runners up as they beat Athena School by nine wickets in the MCFMGS Friendship Cup (3rd Edition).
