Why Rekha pulled out of ‘Fitoor’
Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor says they ‘saw things differently’
Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor says the only reason why veteran actress Rekha opted out of his upcoming was the difference in the way the two of them perceived things.
There were reports that Rekha left the film because of similarities between her and the character.
However, the Kai Po Che director says not a single part of the report is true and people should be cautious before creating news out of nothing.
“When we started, Rekha ji was doing the film. She is a wonderful, gracious and loving lady. During the course of the film, we saw things a little differently. We felt it’s best that we not do this film together... we can work on something else in future. But when reports like this come out, it is not fair to her,” Kapoor said.
“She is a reserved and private person. She is not going to stand up and say things to safeguard her own interest. We should be cautious. It is downright cruel to say anything about her,” he added.
After Rekha left, Tabu was signed on to play the role of Begum and Kapoor, speaking at the trailer launch of the film on Monday, was full of praise for the versatile actress.
“We are glad Tabu graciously came on board. This character would have taken months to prepare as it is so layered, we are thankful to Tabu for coming on board in three days and [rescuing] us,” he said.
The 44-year-old filmmaker said he did not make any alterations to the character after the sudden cast change.
“The track was not changed. She [Rekha] would have done it in her style and Tabu has played it beautifully in her own style. Tabu is like water, you put her in container and she takes the shape. — PTI
