Initiative­s encourage residents to read more

Various reading drives across the UAE cater to book lovers

The Book Shelter — A Sharjah-based initiative based on the idea of donating and adopting books. You can take up to four books a month free of cost and do not need to return them, just make sure you register the book before you adopt it.

For those with books to donate, a box can be found near the library.

Saturdays, once a month Abu Dhabi launched new libraries in Khalifa Park, Bahia Park and Abu Dhabi Corniche’s Beach section in the past year with two more public libraries due to be opened this year - one in Al Wathba Park and an additional one on the Corniche.

Aimed at encouragin­g reading among children, they are operated by Abu Dhabi municipali­ty in collaborat­ion with Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and the UAE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Developmen­t.

Reading on the Beach, an initiative by Dubai Municipali­ty, will allow beach goers to also indulge in the pleasure of book reading with kiosks set up on various locations this year.
