Reduced speed limits in Ajman from May 1

Safety on roads with highest accident rates given priority

-

Speed limits have been reduced on a number of roads in Ajman found to be hotspots for accidents, the police announced yesterday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Traffic Safety Committee, which was chaired by Brigadier Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police. The committee discussed ways to reduce accidents on roads that witness mishaps most frequently.

Effective from May 1, speed limits on a number of roads in Ajman will be amended. Additionally, bumps and street cones will be placed on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, specifically at exits leading out from the Adnoc and Enoc petrol stations.

Colonel Ali Humaid Al Museibi, director of Traffic and Patrols at Ajman Police, said these amendments have been made to reduce accident rates on these roads.

“Protecting lives is our priority,” he said. “After reviewing the statistics, it became clear that we have to take certain measures to reduce the accident rates on these roads. By reducing the speed limits and adding speed bumps along petrol station exits, we hope motorists will be encouraged to reduce their speed and be mindful of other drivers.”
