Workshop reaffirms fight against wildlife trafficking
Official highlights transport sector’s role in preventing smuggling of animals
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment organised a workshop on wildlife trafficking to stop smugglers from routing threatened and endangered animals through the UAE.
Mariam Hareb, Assistant Undersecretary of Water Resources and Nature Conservation Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, said in a statement that the “transportation industry plays a significant role in preventing illegal wildlife smuggling; capacity building is a critical component in ensuring compliance with our international commitments”.
The UAE is one of the first countries to have four representatives at the global initiative United for Wildlife, including Emirates and Etihad, which signed the declaration last month.
