Prisoner’s family fears foul play behind death

-

The mystery surrounding the death of Indian prisoner Kirpal Singh, who died in a Pakistani jail, has deepened, with an autopsy report revealing his heart and liver are missing, and his family alleging torture and foul play.

The post mortem conducted at Amritsar Medical College could not arrive at a conclusive cause of death. Pakistani authorities have attributed Singh’s death to a heart attack.

Singh’s nephew Ashwani Singh told Gulf News: “My uncle has given up his life for the nation. He was the only witness to another Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh’s death in 2013, and the Pakistan government feared that he might someday reveal the real cause of Sarabjit’s death. They did not want the truth about how Sarabjit died to come out, so they plotted to kill him.”

Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh, who died in a Pakistani jail in May 2013, said Kirpal was murdered by jail authorities.

“This is not a natural death. Even if Kirpal died of a heart attack, there must be some reason behind the cardiac arrest. He could have been poisoned. His body should be sent for examination,” Kaur told Gulf News.
