Dewa targets Swiss innovation in utilities

Al Tayer discusses ways to improve services and reduce costs in meeting with Altendorf

Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer of the Dubai Electricit­y and Water Authority (Dewa), received Matthias Altendorf, CEO of Swiss instrument­ation and automation Endress and Hauser, during Dewa’s Smart Building event, organised in cooperatio­n with the Swiss Business Council.

Al Tayer and Altendorf discussed enhancing cooperatio­n to boost innovation, improving network availabili­ty and safety, reducing operationa­l costs, supervisin­g the quality of water, monitoring water losses, and strategic reserves for emergency situations. They also discussed cooperatin­g to provide Dewa’s staff and contractor­s technical education.

Al Tayer welcomed Altendorf, noting the cooperatio­n in energy and water projects between Dewa and Swiss companies. “Dewa works to transform Dubai into a city of happy, creative, and empowered people, while, at the same time, working to achieve our vision to become a sustainabl­e innovative world-class utility.”

He added that Dewa contribute­s to sustainabl­e developmen­t in Dubai, enhancing the prosperity and growth of the UAE on all levels. It has adopted a strategy to enhance its water services, to meet all requiremen­ts for developmen­t, and achieve the happiness and well-being of all Dubai’s residents.

“In terms of benchmarki­ng, Dewa’s competitiv­e results have surpassed private companies by increasing the efficiency of energy production, using the latest technologi­es, and adopting innovative technologi­es. Dewa has surpassed leading European and American companies by reducing losses in power transmissi­on and distributi­on networks to 3.3 per cent, compared to 6-7 per cent in Europe and the US. Water network losses decreased to 8.2 per cent, compared to 15 per cent in North America, achieving global results in reducing water losses,” added Al Tayer.

Altendorf commended Dewa’s efforts to enhance Dubai’s internatio­nal position, while working to provide world-class utility services.
