Etihad is ‘Airline of the Year’

UAE carrier wins award for the third consecutiv­e year

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, said it has been awarded the “Airline of the Year” award for the third consecutiv­e year by UK magazine, Travel Trade Gazette.

The awards were announced at a ceremony at the Lyceum Theatre in London, the airline said in a statement.

The airline was nominated in two categories — “Airline of the Year” — and in a special category for “Travel Company of the Year”, where Etihad was the only airline mentioned. The entry mechanism for the award was redesigned for 2016 as only the agents’ best-rated supplier in each of the 15 categories was shortliste­d.

Product and service

“I am delighted that we have won this prestigiou­s award for the third time as it recognises the airline’s world-class product and service, as well as our strong commercial relationsh­ips with the trade,” James Harrison, General Manager for Etihad Airways in the UK, said.

Separately, the airline said it has it has introduced a new range of “Etihad Explorers” children’s activity packs and a Flying Nanny Kit, to keep its younger guests occupied while aboard. Etihad Explorers is the airline’s new children’s brand and will feature on activity packs and meal items, and aims to instill a sense of excitement and anticipati­on during their journey. The kits were launched at a children’s tea party hosted by the airline at its Innovation Training Academy in Abu Dhabi.
