It goes without saying that when you are on holiday you don’t really go looking for a treadmill or watch the calories you are consuming. But now, as you are back home after summer holidays and Eid festivities, it’s time to get back into routine.

“[When you return from a holiday] you realise you are carrying some excess luggage — especially around the belly and hips,” says Ahlaam Ali, lifestyle and nutrition coach at Powwer Lounge in Dubai, and author of the Hottie’s

Handbook. “What do you do? You try all newfangled diets and ideas. People make the mistake of believing that if they eat 500 calories a day they will lose weight faster”.

Ali feels the best way to get back on track is to “shock your system and do an overall detox that will help unclog all the junk that your body has accumulated during that amazing holiday”. Then, ease yourself into routine with energyfilled but light meals.

“You can choose from a one-, threeor five-day easy detox [plan], depending on your work schedule or whether you are an active mum constantly on the move. If you have a very demanding lifestyle then best to do a one-day detox where you go through the day drinking a lot of detox juices, herbal teas and staying off meat altogether”.

Here, Ali gives us a sample menu to detox, and healthy recipes to get back in shape.

“As always, couple this with exercise for optimum results,” she advises.
