Pakistan ‘exporting terror,’ India says
Modi says he will work to isolate Islamabad internationally and calls on people to eradicate social ills
India’s prime minister accused Pakistan of trying to destabilise Asia by exporting terrorism and said he will work to isolate Pakistan internationally.
Narendra Modi said in a speech yesterday that in the last four months, Indian security forces have killed 110 terrorists who crossed over the ceasefire line in Kashmir from Pakistani territory.
He claimed terrorist attacks in Bangladesh and Afghanistan were also being instigated from Pakistan.
“We will isolate you,” Modi warned Pakistan. “I will work for that.”
Modi’s speech in the southern Indian town of Kozhikode, Kerala, was his first since an attack on an army base in Indian Kashmir last Sunday killed 18 soldiers.
Indian investigators allege the attackers were from Jaish-e-Mohammad, a militant group based in Pakistan. Pakistan denies the charge.
“Let me tell Pakistan that the sacrifice of 18 Indian soldiers will not go to waste,” Modi said in his speech.
“There is one nation in Asia whose aim is to spread terrorism and is working towards ensuring that the 21st century does not belong to Asia,” he alleged, referring to Pakistan. “Every nation is holding only one country responsible for terrorism. Only one country in Asia is a safe haven for terrorists.”
He also exhorted the people of Pakistan to eschew the path of violence and work to eradicate social ills such as poverty and unemployment.
Let me tell Pakistan that the sacrifice of 18 Indian soldiers will not go to waste” Narendra Modi | Indian prime minister
Launching a blistering attack on Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday warned its leadership that the Uri terror attack will not be forgotten and the sacrifice of 18 soldiers will not go in vain.
In his first public address after last Sunday’s deadly attack by terrorists from across the border, he said India will mount an all-out offensive to isolate Pakistan diplomatically to expose its activities in exporting terror, as well as the killing of innocent people.
“Terrorists should hear out clearly that India will never forget the Uri attack. I want to tell the leadership of Pakistan that the sacrifice of our 18 jawans [soldiers] will not go in vain,” Modi told a largelyattended public meeting on the Kozhikode beach held on the sidelines of the BJP national council meet.
Modi held Pakistan directly responsible for the Uri attack saying the country exported terrorists there due to which 18 soldiers sacrificed their lives.
The Prime Minister said there is one nation in Asia whose aim is to spread terrorism and is working towards ensuring that the 21st century does not belong to Asia. “Every nation is holding only one country responsible for terrorism. Only one country in Asia is a safe haven for terrorists. This is the only country engaged in exporting terror across the world. “Be it Afghanistan, Bangladesh or other nations, we have seen whenever the news of terror incidents comes, terrorists have either gone from this country [Pakistan] or have settled there after committing the crime,” he said.
The prime minister said India had never bowed to terror and will never do so in future and will strive to defeat it.
Modi said there was a sense of anger among people of the country over the audacious attack and the deaths of soldiers.
1,000-year way
Referring to remarks of former Pakistani leaders of fighting a 1,000 year war with India, Modi said: “There is a government in Delhi today which is ready to accept the challenge.”
“I want to tell the people of Pakistan — India is ready to fight you,” Modi said, adding that both countries should fight against poverty, unemployment and illiteracy —“let’s see who wins”.
Modi said there were 17 attempts by fidayen attackers sent by the neighbouring country which have been defeated by the brave Indian soldiers who have neutralised over 110 terrorists which is the highest in recent years.
