What does it mean?
According to a study published in the recent
every year approximately 433,000 deaths occur worldwide, because people spend more than three hours a day just sitting down.
We asked Gulf News readers, in a poll, how long they sit at a stretch? A majority, 23 per cent, sit for two to three hours, followed by 22 per cent of respondents who sit at a stretch for more than four hours.
Various studies over the last decade have demonstrated how the ‘chair effect’ or excessive amount of time we spend sitting down may increase the risk of death, regardless of whether or not we exercise.
Do you sit continuously for more than three hours? Is it because of the nature of your work? Tell us at readers@ gulfnews.com.
