Mixed luck for top UAE cueists at Dubai event

Shehab goes through while the experience­d Al Joker falls to unheralded Al Shukaili

It was mixed luck for the top two UAE snooker players in third round action of the 2017 Dubai Snooker Tournament being played at the Dubai Snooker Club.

UAE national team member Mohammad Shehab brushed aside Sami Al Harashdi 3-0, while the experience­d Mohammad Al Joker went down 1-3 against an unheralded Rashid Al Shukaili in late night action in Friday’s feature matches.

Shehab’s younger brother Ahmad also assured himself a place in the next round of competitio­n with an easy 3-1 win over Rami Omar 3-1, while another UAE national team member Abdullah Al Attar defeated Mohammad Sadak 3-0 to book his rightful spot. The toughest match of the night involved Sa’ad Ahmad Mujaddadi taking on Hussain Khalid before the former player eased through 3-2, while in other matches, Farhan Qamar beat Fahad Al Homomy 3-0 and Rami Bel Khalid got the better of Yahya Asweethi 3-1.

After a final round of matches on Saturday and Sunday, the pre-quarterfin­als are scheduled to be held on Monday. The annual snooker tournament is scheduled to conclude with the final at the Dubai Snooker Club on March 23.
