Roger wins scholarship in England
Fourteen-year-old cricketer in top form with huge scores and best player awards
Fourteen-year-old Shoun Roger, who has been winning the best player trophies in the UAE’s domestic tournaments has received a scholarship to play for England’s Wellington school.
Roger impressed the Wellington school that had toured UAE and invited him to join them.
Speaking to Gulf News, Roger, who has been scoring heavily for years now, said: “I am delighted to join this school and play for them in England. I will be joining in Grade 9 and will be part of their cricket process.”
Roger’s cupboard at home is overflowing with trophies that he has been winning since the age of 10. Among his recent trophies are the UAE National School League’s player of the tournament trophy. He scored 285 runs and picked up 19 wickets. It was the second time he has been named this tournament.
In the Maxtalent Vision Cup UAE inter-school tournament, he won the man of the series award scoring three half centuries. In the Young Talents Cricket Academy five nation tournament he cracked a 64 in the semi-final and followed up with a 70 in the final as captain to help Sealine YTCA team lift the trophy.

Roger was also in top form in the Al Bateyeh Under 15 tournament with a knock of 113 and an unbeaten 73.
“I am happy that I have been rewarded for my hard work and consistency with a scholarship. I am also in form now as playing for UAE Desert Warriors during the India tour I scored 865 runs hitting three centuries and seven half centuries,” said Roger, whose highest score in the tour was a knock of 151 against Chengannur. During this tour to Kerala’s different cricket centres he scored heavily against Under-19 and Under-16 teams.
Incidentally, Roger had earned the honour of representing Kerala State Under-15 team in 2015. Roger’s father Antony, a club level cricketer, encourages Roger to play in all countries.
“Representing Desert Cubs Academy I have won the best player awards in the Under-13 matches in Australia and in Sri Lanka. In 2014, I had won the best player award in 2014 England tour at the age of 11. I will try my best to improve my skills in England,” assures Roger.
