Ray of hope for Hyderabad’s famed lakes
The
state government has decided to launch a drive against the encroachments and construction of illegal buildings on Hyderabad’s lake beds.
The move comes in the backdrop of the city’s lakes disappearing at an alarming rate. Hyderabad was once known as the City of Lakes but 90 per cent of its 2,800 lakes have disappeared. In the first phase of the plan chalked out at the meeting, 30 lakes will be fenced off to save them from any further encroachments. Rs1 billion (Dh56.93m) will be spent on the project. (Staff Report)
