Local camels continue trophy haul
BIG WINS FOR ASHEHHANIYA AND AL TAYER ON EXCITING DAY’S RACING AT AL MARMOUM
AE-bred and owned camels continued to dominate the 2017 Al Marmoum Heritage Festival at the Dubai Camel and Racing Club track bagging both the feature races of the day.
Ashehhaniya, an athletic, female (Abkar) camel owner by Khalifa Hamad Khalifa Al Attiya, won the late Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Trophy, which carried a rich purse of Dh500,000. The winner covered the race distance of 5km in a time of 09:01:8 minutes.
The feature race of the morning session designed for Open Reproductive Abkar Camels, was won by Al Tayer, owned by Salim Mudhafar Khamousha, who received a prestigious trophy and a cash prize of Dh500,000. Al Tayer was timed at 09:14:7 minutes.
Day Five of the festival consisted of 42 races, 24 of which were allocated for camels owned by tribesmen’s in the Yeatha Category.
Surprise visitor
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was a surprise visitor to the Al Marmoum Camel Race Track.
Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, who is the chief patron of the Al Marmoum Heritage Festival, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Dubai Camel Racing Club (DCRC), Shaikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, and Ali Saeed Bin Saroud, CEO of Dubai Camel Racing Club (DCRC), were also present.
Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, distributed the prizes to the winners.
The evening session of 18 was dedicated to races that featured in the name of the Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Trophy. The races were open to Tribesmen-owned camel also in the Yeatha Category.
The session saw some strong competition both the Abkar and Jeadan categories.
Among the big winners were the female camel Tahiya, owned by Zayed Mohammad Zayed Al Mansouri who won a trophy and Dh400,000, and Munbie, a male camel won the open Jeadan race.
His owner Rajih Mohammad Talib Aqil Al Marie won a rifle and Dh400,000 in cash.
The fourth race offering a prize of a rifle and Dh400,000 was won by Waer, owned by Abdullah Mohammad Ahmad Al Musnad, in a time of 07:20:51.
The DCRC, under the skilful management of Ali Saeed Bin Saroud, continues to serve up a treat for lovers of camel racing.
