Arab Media Forum to raise money for Syrian children

Donation drive to take place during two-day summit in Dubai

Adonation drive for Syrian refugee children will take place during this year’s Arab Media Forum (AMF), a two-day Dubai summit aimed at reporters and communication professionals.

The fundraising drive is a collaboration between the Dubai Press Club, the forum’s organiser, and Dubai Cares, backed by the Dubai government.

The initiative called “We Write for Syrian Children” aims to help educate Syrian children in refugee camps and improve their access to education.

According to data provided by the United Nations, there are more than 1.5 million schoolage refugee children in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan.

Only half of them receive formal education, while 180,000 children between the ages of 5 and 17 are not enrolled in schools.

Those who wish to donate to support the education of Syrian refugee children can visit the Dubai Cares platform at the forum.

Using a tablet computer, donors write their names and select the name of an ancient civilisation. The donor’s name will then be rewritten in the ancient alphabet of the selected civilisation. Upon pressing the ‘donate’ button, the process will be completed and the donation registered.

“Every year, we make sure that AMF contributes positively to transforming the lives of people,” said Mona Al Merri, the Dubai Press Club president.

“This year, however, we thought of creating value out of the participation of more than 3,000 people at AMF.”

Themed ‘Civil Dialogue’, this year’s Arab Media Forum will be held on May 1-2 at Madinat Jumeirah.
