Best fan fiction

- By Shyama Krishna Kumar, Copy Editor

20 years after Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,

the first book in J.K. Rowling’s bestselling wizarding world series, brought magic into the lives of children and adults alike, there’s a lingering yearning for Potter content that cannot simply be satiated by a successful nine-movie film franchise, several theme parks and unending merchandise options. Filling that gaping Hogwarts-shaped hole in your heart all these years is fan fiction. We pick some of our favourites for your reading pleasure.

The First Day by little0bird

After the events of Battle for Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows, which saw many of Potter’s closest friends die, Rowling jumps to the future, where and Harry and co are now happily settled with kids. But what went down after that fateful day when Harry managed to defeat his greatest enemy, Voldemort? How did he cope with the death and destruction that surrounded him? Here’s a story that sensitively deals with PTSD.

Dumbledore’s Army and the Year of Darkness by Thanfiction

Ever wonder what the rest of Dumbledore’s Army was up to while Harry, Hermione and Ron were out looking for Horcruxes during the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? Filling in these gaping holes, Dumbledore’s Army and the Year of Darkness follows Neville, Ginny, Seamus and the rest as they heroically stand guard at Hogwarts, while the original three heroes go about hunting Horcruxes. This is the first book in a trilogy.

Green Girl by Colubrina

What if Hermione Granger, a witch born to Muggle parents, was sorted into the bloodlineobsessed Slytherin? Green Girl might be considered by many fan fiction readers to be a little too dark. But it’s always entertaining to see Granger’s limits being pushed.

Isolation by Bex-chan

Arguably the best Harry Potter fanfic that pairs up Draco and Hermione, Isolation finds the Golden Girl left behind, helping Professor McGonagall run Hogwarts, while Harry and Ron are out searching for Horcruxes. To make matters worse, her mortal enemy, Draco Malfoy, who has now turned himself over to the good side, is now Granger’s responsibility.

Destiny Reversed by chattypandagurl

One morning, Harry Potter wakes up to find that he no longer bears his scar and that his parents are still alive. But someone else has paid the price: good friend Neville Longbottom, who now has to face Voldemort.
