The investigating team ‘heroes’
The members of the JIT team investigating the Sharif family’s alleged corruption were hailed as heroes for taking an unprecedented step in Pakistan’s political history. Here’s a brief on each team member: Wajid Zia: Wajid Zia of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is a seasoned police officer who has served as an investigator at one of the United Nation’s missions in The Hague. He has also served in the Intelligence Bureau. Amer Aziz: Amer Aziz is currently serving as a managing director of the National Institute of Banking and Finance in Islamabad. He served in the National Accountability Bureau briefly during Gen Musharraf’s government. Bilal Rasul: Bilal Rasul is executive director at Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan. Rasul joined SECP as a young officer about 24 years ago and has a degree from University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
Irfan Naeem Mangi: Irfan Mangi, representing National Accountability Bureau (NAB), has 14 years’ experience of investigating financial corruption. He is currently serving in Quetta as the director general of NAB, Balochistan. Brig. Kamran Khurshid: Brigadier Kamran Khurshid, who is representing military intelligence (MI) in JIT, is a seasoned officer who was also part of a critical meeting between Border Security Force, India and Pakistan Rangers held at JCP Attari in December 2007. Brig. (retd) Mohammad Noaman Saeed: Brig. Noaman Saeed is also from military intelligence and well known in the army for his expertise in conducting inquiries. Noaman Saeed retired from active service in the army in 2016.
