More than 1,000 runners are expected to take part in The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, which takes place at the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC) on February 7.

The relay will take place around the DIFC building with each runner from corporate teams of 10 running a lap of the mile (1.6-km) long route. The team with the fastest cumulative time will be crowned champions.

Alya Al Zarouni, senior vice-president of operations at DIFC Authority, said: “This is the third time we are the official venue partner for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay and each year the event gets bigger and better, with fiercer competition among participating companies.

“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase DIFC as more than a top ten global financial centre — the Centre is widely recognised as a leading destination for business and lifestyle. We are delighted to be involved in this international event once more and we look forward to seeing Dubai’s professionals on the course.”

The concept began in London in 2007 and has since grown to 10 cities with San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Tokyo added last year. Twentyseven races have taken place worldwide over the past decade with runners completing a total 25,250 miles (40,635km), the equivalent of running around the world.
