While the iPhone X was the big reveal at the Apple event that celebrated the popular device’s tenth anniversary, the regular iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were very much a part of the party. They may not have the upgrades seen on the iPhone X but this has helped them to remain affordable as well. Starting at and

respectively, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus offer the lightning fast A11 Bionic chipset, custommade for them by Apple. In an allnew look with glass for the front and back, the devices finally have wireless charging enabled. The cameras, 12MP both, get slight bumps too. The iPhone 8 has OIS on its single lens and the 8 Plus comes with a dual-camera set-up with improved Portrait Lighting Mode (still in beta). Both devices will see iOS 11, which revamps the OS.

Apple devices somehow manage to trump the competition when it comes to usage speeds and battery life. That said, both these new devices may have already been rendered old thanks to the iPhone X.

The OnePlus 5, the fifth iteration of the company’s flagship device, was released under some scrutiny, thanks to its iPhone-like design. But I have to say that it is a stellar device for its price. Starting the OnePlus 5 comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6/8GB of RAM, 64/128GB of storage, a 3300mAh battery and the beautiful Android 7.1 Nougat. The camera is a 16+20MP dual-rear camera set-up and a 16MP front snapper.

Two standout points on the OnePlus 5 during my daily grind, the first being battery life. Thanks to a clean OS, full HD display and a decentsized battery, the phone easily lasted me a full day. Even if I had to juice up, OnePlus’ Dash charge, still among the fastest in the business, did the trick.

The second factor was speed. Thanks to its giant 8GB RAM and the Snapdragon 835 processor, daily usage and multitasking were a breeze.

Obviously, the device isn’t perfect. The design is a bit under par and the camera, though the best OnePlus has had, is not numero uno. Still, at the price, it is a great bit of kit.
