The most addictive book

-

acebook seems to be a rather ironic name to be given to something that neither allows people to interact face to face, nor leaves them with enough time to write down a book, let alone read one.

A website on which people were meant to increase their social circle and human interaction has imbibed in people a tendency to portray a fake life of perfection. The priority, as soon as we get dressed for a party, meet friends, order good food, receive an award or visit a new place is to click a picture, and post it as soon as possible. This, of course, is followed by tagging a significant number of people from our friend list and by describing how we are feeling. Trust me, most of the time the individuals aren’t feeling anything at all. I have seen people typing ‘lol’ or using various emoticons without having a single expression on their face.

Believe it or not, all families are not perfect, all birthdays and anniversaries are not celebrated, all vacations are not awesome. However, a post once in a while just seems like a social obligation that needs to be fulfilled to be accepted in the society. It has become more important to wish people online rather than wishing them in person.

Which brings into light the fact that we have stopped living in the moment. The technology that was meant to bring us closer is actually creating emotional distance between us.

I was blessed with an amazing childhood spent in the company of many ‘real’ friends. Nothing can compare with the joy of playing in the hot summers, making paper boats during the rainy season and collecting snow during the winter. Our smiles were the actual reflection of the happiness we felt in our heart.

It shatters me to see today’s youngsters prioritising Facebook chats rather than human interaction.

From the first thing in the morning to the last thing at night, we are tempted to check the latest updates. I urge you to pause and think. Embrace the face and hook yourselves to a book.
