Dubai residents who want to set up a solar electric system at home can now get ready-to-use solar kits, as stated in the Gulf News report, “Don’t know how to go solar? Use Safaqat”, published October 19.

The initiative is called Safaqat and aims to make the use of solar panels a residential feature in Dubai, to promote sustainability. The kit can produce over 2,000 hours of energy annually.

We asked our readers if they wanted to set up a solar electric system at home, and 75 per cent of respondents said yes. Apart from saving money on their electricty bills, they will also be lowering their carbon footprint.

According to another Gulf News report, published June 2017, Dubai shopping malls are set to install solar panels to reduce their carbon emissions. These initiatives are in line with UAE’s Vision 2021 of generating clean energy
