Federal National Council playing a sterling role
Responsibility of FNC remains in tandem with UAE’s vision to achieve the most ambitious national goals
The inaugural chapter of the third Ordinary Session of the 16th Legislative Chapter of the Federal National Council (FNC) reiterated the apex role being undertaken by this august body in steering the UAE towards greater dynamism. The indispensable worth of a federal authority’s mandate to provide for public debate for legislation is evident in the way the UAE has been forging policies for nation-building, and in this journey, the maturing of the UAE’s parliamentary spirit provides an intrinsic momentum.
One of the UAE’s five federal authorities, established by the Constitution, the FNC has evolved with a robust and organic intellectual vigour from its first session held on December 2, 1972. As the UAE strides ahead with path-breaking proposals and vision, the role and responsibility of the FNC remains in tandem to ensure that even the most ambitious national goals are achieved through acuity, forethought and vigorous debates that distil the essence of the governing principles of the UAE. The impetus for legislation and the aspects that integrate it with the highest functioning of society and the country have their roots in the earnest deliberations conducted in this esteemed entity. In a country so young, the FNC has done a sterling job of being the driving force behind the UAE’s efforts at broadening its horizon of progress. It’s a task that not only involves upholding time-honoured traditions and culture of the UAE, but also pursuing tomorrow’s imperatives that will shape its future.
As His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai said while inaugurating this session of the FNC, “this is the only way to achieve the ambitions of our nation”.
