Porsche GT3 back bigger and better

New car and drivers to feature in improved series from November 17

-

Nine different nations will feature in this season’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, which starts in Bahrain on November 17.

South Africa’s Saul Hack and Scotland’s Glynn Geddie are just two of the new drivers. Others will also hail from Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. A new 485 horsepower, four-litre, six cylinder Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will also deliver quicker lap times.

Pre-season testing takes place in Bahrain from November 1112 and 17 cars will feature in the season-opener on November 17.

Hack said: “After meeting Walter Lechner and hearing him talk about the set-up of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, I thought it could be the best place to start my international career. I was invited to test in Hungary for Walter and that experience confirmed everything. It will be a big step up, especially since I have never raced in the Middle East so I don’t know the tracks. But I’ve been working with simulators and look forward to experiencing the real thing.”

A newcomer

Geddie said: “I might be a newcomer to this specific race series, but I’ve got a lot of experience in motorsport. I’ve only heard great things about competing in the Middle East. The circuits are among the best in the world and to race against drivers of this quality was very appealing. I’m looking forward to fighting for some podiums and victories.”

The series remains the only regional championship backed by a manufacturer in the Middle East, and Season Nine will see the series set even higher standards, according to Lechner.
