Gulf News

What does it mean?

-

Twitter doubled its character limit and people were unhappy as stated in the Gulf News report “Twitter purists rage at end of 140 characters”, published in the Business section on November 10.

We asked our readers the ideal character length for a tweet, and 6 out of 10 said 140 characters.

Why the ‘hate’ from Tweeps? Well, could be because it takes away from the original identity of the social channel - brevity.

And, gives people more of an opportunity to ramble. In a time-crunched age, Twitter seems to be opting for a longer read, while newspapers drive to be more ‘ social short’. What next?
