He scaled the Burj Khalifa the last time he was in the UAE shooting for a Mission: Impossible film. This time around, Hollywood star Tom Cruise is using the might of the country’s armed forces as he brings the sixth instalment of the franchise to Abu Dhabi.

A newly released image posted by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission sees Cruise in a flight suit, along with Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie, posing in front a plane marked UAE Armed Forces, with the caption: “Mission made possible with Tom Cruise in Abu Dhabi, thanks to homegrown talent @2454abudhabi while filming #MissionImpossible Fallout!”

While speculation was rife that Cruise had returned to the UAE to film the action thriller — what with images of the actor enjoying Arabian hospitality and jumping from a plane over the Abu Dhabi desert turning up on social media — he formally made the announcement on social media earlier this month.

In a post on his Twitter account, Cruise stated: “Thank you to everyone in Abu Dhabi for the amazing help and cooperation. Our filming here continues to be a wonderful experience.”

Back in 2011, Cruise made headlines around the world when he shot for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol at Burj Khalifa.

The stunt saw Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, hang off the world’s tallest building, with the stunt taking 23 days to film and requiring some 400 crew members.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout sees Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames return to the franchise. Also starring in this instalment is Henry Cavill and Rebecca Ferguson.

The movie is slated to release on July 26 this year.
