Guillermo del Toro to create newgenre label
Following theirAcademy Award- winning collaboration on The Shape of Water, FoxSearchlight Pictures and director Guillermo delToro have signed a newdevelopment deal that will include a newgenre label to serve as a home for horror, sci- fi and fantasy projects.
Films under the newlabel will be financed, marketed and distributed by FoxSearchlight, company co- presidents Stephen Gilula and Nancy Utley said in their announcement. The name of the label will be announced later, but Searchlight said itwould include projects produced and curated byDelToro.
The firstmovie in the pipeline will beAntlers, astory about an elementary schoolteacherwho takes in a troubled student, based on the short storyThe Quiet Boy byNickAntosca. The project will be directed by Scott Cooper, who previouslyworked with Searchlight on the 2009Jeff Bridgesmovie CrazyHeart. Del Toro is one of the producers on themovie.
Searchlight’s deal withDelToro also covers liveaction feature projects that the Oscar- winning filmmaker will write, produce and direct.
