20 minutes to a fitter you

A workout that employs electrical muscle stimulation aims to help you get results quicker

With so many exercise concepts out there, we barely have the time to try each one. But here’s a truly unique kind that’s yet to go mainstream in the UAE, and because it employs EMS (Electrical muscle stimulation), it saves you time. Enter 20’ Fit, a new studio in Dubai that literally applies technology on you so you don’t have to exert extra effort to get a great workout — it takes just 20 minutes.

This resident tabloid! fitness junkie was invited to try a few sessions with 20’ Fit and was treated to a whole new experience of mixed sensations. I had to wear gear, top and bottom, which connects to a machine controlling the electrical impulses that stimulate the muscles. No, you’re not getting electrocuted, you just feel the tiny yet somewhat strong vibrations penetrate your body deep. It took me three sessions to get the hang of it and start enjoying the process.

I sat down with 20’ Fit’s Managing Director Pawel Krymski to learn more about the brand of electrifying workout.

Describe 20’ Fit’s EMS approach to training.

20’ Fit combines personal training with the future of fitness. By applying EMS, we are aiming to increase metabolism and add an additional challenge to the muscles for peak efficiency in 20 minutes while you are wearing the EMS suit. Two sessions per week are enough. People underestimate how efficient and exhausting it is. Our

trainers make sure the exercises are carried out by clients the right way. And of course, because of the equipment we have, clients get a high variety of new muscle stimuli, which is necessary for growth, and it is great fun!

Our clients love our boxing and TRX exercises. We have many clients who also go to regular gyms but still add sessions with us, which works amazingly fine. We’re not just another EMS studio; during our 20-minute full-body workout, between 90-95 per cent of all the muscle tissues are activated while forcing the body to stand in different positions and doing different choreography.

What is the training philosophy?

Our philosophy is to compress the workout time to a minimum while achieving maximum results.

How will you convince people to try EMS at 20’ Fit?

Come for a trial session, check our Instagram to see training videos or call us for detailed information. We provide the complete training gear.

People think they will get electric shocks but this is not happening, it is absolutely harmless. It is very efficient. Some people also think that they have to be already sporty in order to start; this is not the case. It’s for everyone. For the young and old, the overweight, the mothers who want to get in shape after giving birth, the people who have joint and disc problems, the active people who want to add extra definition to their musculature, and of course, for the people who do not have the time but would like to get in shape. We always customise a training programme according to the client’s goals. We do body composition assessments and include a free nutrition plan.

On average, how long does it take for a client to see results with 20’ Fit alone?

This depends on the client and his/her goals. We have clients who stick to the training programme and nutrition plan and lose 5.4kg after the third session. Some lose 8kg after 10 sessions. We also have clients who gained 2.8kg of muscle in 28 days. Clients whose goal is toning see good results after the second or third session because all small muscle fibres will be activated so they look more ‘dry’. However, every client feels right after the first session that they’ve done a very effective workout.
