Murder case solved after four-hour investigat­ion

POLICE USE AI TECHNIQUES TO NAB CULPRIT WHO ALSO STOLE THE VICTIM’S WALLET

In a swift operation, Dubai Police arrested an Arab visitor within four hours after investigat­ing the suspected murder of an American businessma­n at a hotel.

The businessma­n of Arab origin, identified as N.G.D, was found dead inside the hotel room where a forensic examinatio­n revealed he was killed by a blow to the head with a wooden plank, part of a drawer. The suspect was apprehende­d at his residence within a record time of four hours.

Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigat­ion Affairs, said police swung into action after receiving a call from the nephew of the businessma­n saying he had lost contact with his uncle while he was in the country.

Dubai Police have arrested an Arab visitor suspected of killing an American businessma­n at a hotel in Dubai.

The suspect was apprehende­d at his residence within a record time of four hours after police launched an investigat­ion into a man who was reported missing, Dubai Police said.

The American businessma­n of Arab origin, identified as N.G.D, was found dead in his hotel room where a forensic examinatio­n revealed he died from a blow to the head with a wooden plank, part of a drawer.

Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigat­ion Affairs explained that Al Muraqqabat Police Station had received a call from the nephew of the businessma­n saying that he had lost contact with his uncle while he was in the country.

A field team and a technical team acted swiftly and started to gather informatio­n about the missing businessma­n, who frequently visited Dubai for long periods and stayed at different hotels.

Upon locating his place of stay, police obtained a legal search warrant to search a hotel room.

“Investigat­ors found that the businessma­n was hit by a wooden drawer and that he had been dead for about 48 hours,” he said.

Lt Colonel Adel Al Joker, Director of Criminal investigat­ion Department (CID) at Dubai Police, said a team was assigned to identify and hunt the killers.

With the help of Artificial Intelligen­ce techniques at the Data Analysis Centre, the police identified the perpetrato­r and his nationalit­y.

“He turned out to be a 25-year-old Arab visitor who had accompanie­d the businessma­n to his hotel room. The police teams were able to locate the perpetrato­r’s residence and arrested him in a record time,” he said.

During investigat­ions, the offender admitted that he had accompanie­d the businessma­n to his hotel room and that he stole the victim’s wallet after beating him on the head with a wooden plank and fled the scene when the victim lost consciousn­ess.

He also admitted to stealing a bank card from the businessma­n and giving it to his accomplice, also an Arab, who helped him withdraw cash by using the card. The accomplice was also arrested.

The case has been transferre­d to the public prosecutio­n.
