Why Salah is a star with a golden heart

- BY RAMADAN AL SHERBINI Correspondent

Last year, Mohammad Salah launched a charitable association in his home village in Egypt’s Nile Delta. The association, based in the village of Nagrig, offers financial support for the poor and the needy estimated at around 50,000 Egyptian pounds (Dh10,460) a month. The group, known as the Salah Society for Charity, also pays the marriage costs of the people who cannot afford it.

“We have pay lists of the people who deserve financial support including widows and orphans either in the village or elsewhere,” Mohammad Bahnasi, who runs the association, said.

“Mohammad Salah has also instructed us to offer help for all emergency cases,” Bahnasi told private newspaper Al Watan.

Salah has also donated to set up medical units of incubators, ventilation machines, haemodialysis and an ambulatory service in his village, located 120 kilometres north-west of Cairo. He has also donated to upgrade the village’s school where he received his primary education.

Salah’s benevolence is not limited to his village, though. He regularly donates to hospitals and orphanages.
