Driver run over while changing tyre on highway

DUBAI

A driver was killed on Shaikh Zayed Road on Saturday as he stopped on the hard shoulder to change a flat tyre.

Lt Col Juma Bin Suwaidan, Deputy Director of Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said the accident occurred at 7.30am when a pick-up truck ran over the driver.

The driver had not displayed the reflective warning triangle when he stopped on the hard shoulder. Lt Col Bin Suwaidan, urged drivers to check their tyres and not stop on the hard shoulder. (Staff Report)

ABU DHABI

As many as 11,434 motorists in Abu Dhabi were fined for speeding in the first quarter of the year.

A total of 2,375 vehicles were caught jumping the red signal during the first quarter of this year. Brigadier Khalifa Mohammad Al Khaili, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorat­e, warned that speeding results in serious accidents and endangers the lives of road users. (Staff Report)
