Hussain Al Shahat would love to see Liverpool win the Uefa Champions League this year.

This is not because the 26-year-old attacking midfielder from Al Ain is an avid fan of the English Premier League side, but more because of the opportunity fans from the UAE would get to see fellow Egyptian Mohammad Salah in action at the 2018 Fifa Club World Cup, which takes place in Abu Dhabi in December.

Al Shahat has been a vital cog for Al Ain since arriving on loan from Egyptian side Misr Lel Makkasa, earlier this season. The 26-year-old who loves his runs down the right flank did not hide his excitement of having one of Arab region’s most favourite footballer making the trip to the UAE capital when the Fifa Club World Cup is played from December 12-22.

The annual tournament organised by the world governing body for football sees the champion clubs from each of the six continental confederations join the national league champion from the host country [Al Jazira this year] to decide the best club in the world.

Liverpool have been riding on the brilliance of Salah this season as they prepare for a sixth Uefa Champions League crown while facing AS Roma in Tuesday’s first leg semi-final at home at Anfield. “One of my biggest wish is to see Mo Salah playing in this country that has given me so much,” Al Shahat told media after his club had won the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) on Saturday.

“And one of the surest ways we can do this is when Liverpool manages to win the Champions League and Mo Salah will be guaranteed to be playing in Abu Dhabi. I think this will be one of the best moments for football in the UAE,” he related.

However, before that is the Fifa World Cup in Russia, where Al Shahat is hoping to line up alongside Salah when the squad is finalised by Argentine coach Hector Cuper.
