Ranbir shines in ‘Sanju’ teaser
Teaser of Bollywood biopic suggests that the actor has taken the brief of playing his troubled colleague seriously
Trust Ranbir Kapoor to take the role of playing the original bad boy of Bollywood, Sanjay Dutt, seriously. In the teaser of his latest film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Sanju — a biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt — Kapoor bears an uncanny resemblance to Dutt. Kapoor seems to have nailed Dutt’s swagger and the way he speaks to the last letter.
From Dutt’s lopsided gait to his laidback street-style way of speaking, Kapoor has undergone a drastic physical transformation in order to chronicle the life of Dutt who has seen tremendous
highs and lows in his eventful life convincingly. Sanju, which will release in the UAE on June 28, opens with the shot of Kapoor stepping out the prison gates and declaring: “Apna life full saapseedi ka board hai; kabhi up to kabhi
down” [My life is like the snakes and ladders board game; sometimes up and sometimes down].”
The teaser also gives us a glimpse into the actor’s drug addiction, his subsequent journey of coming clean and his days in prison when he was sentenced for firearms offences linked to the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
The poster, which shows Kapoor in various avatars of Dutt, is also intriguing.
Sanju also stars Sonam Kapoor, Manisha Koirala and Anushka Sharma.
On a side note, during the film’s trailer launch, Kapoor’s flippant remark on sexual misconduct at workplace triggered outrage on social media. When asked his thoughts on Saroj Khan’s recent remarks on casting couch, he replied with a cavalier attitude that it’s never happened to him.
