UAE Tour races ahead with a new revolution on cards

Local Organising Committees put in place ahead of next year’s revamp

The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) held a joint coordinati­on meeting on the DSC premises at D3 District to announce the formation of the various Local Organising Committees (LOCs).

The preparatio­ns for next year’s UAE Tour also came up for discussion.

The UAE Tour came into being last month following the decision to merge the Dubai Tour and Abu Dhabi Tour, on the instructio­ns of the country’s leadership. The Higher Executive Committee of the UAE Tour, which will showcase the country through seven unique stages, will be headed by Saeed Hareb, general secretary of DSC, while Aref Al Awani, general secretary of ADSC, will be the vice-chairman.

Osama Al Shaffar, president, UAE and Asian Cycling Federation, will also be a member of the Higher Executive Committee along with Nasser Al Rahma, Mubarak Al Ameri, Enrico Fili and Fabrizio D’Amico.

Al Awani will head the Marketing and Communicat­ion Committee, which will also include Ahmad Ebrahim, Ahmad Al Qubaisi, Sara Al Sayegh, Khulood Al Mazroui, Salem Al Naqbi, Anwar Shaikh and Luca Onofrio.

The Commercial and Legal Committee will be led by Nasser Al Rahma along with members Ahmad Al Hosani, Salah Al Marzouqi, Ahmad Al Daheri, Dr Shams Al Maref Bakhit, Enrico Fili and Fabrizio D’Amico.

Talal Al Hashim will chair the Technical Committee, which also includes Mohammad Mehrab, Duccio Ticciati, Ahmad Mesaabi, Mohammad Al Shatri, Dr Reema Al Hosani, Fabrizio D’Amico, Cristina Barberio and Anas Elfawair and another representa­tive from the UAE Cycling Federation.

Al Awani and Hareb were present at the signing, and the two officials said that the UAE Tour will consist of seven stages so as to have a greater impact while retaining its UCI World Tour status.
