Duo sneak into villa and steal valuables worth Dh173,000

Suspects broke door from poolside, climbed up to master bedroom and stole valuables

Two jobless men have been accused of sneaking into a villa and stealing Dh173,000 worth of valuables when its tenants were away on summer holiday.

A South Korean manager and her family were said to have been away on holiday in summer 2015 and when they returned to Dubai, they discovered that their villa had been robbed.

Once the family entered their villa in Port Saeed area, the South Korean manager realised that her jewellery which she had kept in a wooden box, according to records, was missing.

The manager had kept her valuables and her husband’s in a box in the cabinet and covered it with a cloth, said records.

Police investigat­ions revealed the involvemen­t of two Chinese jobless men, ages 24 and 27, who were detained for committing a similar theft using the same modus operandi, in robbing the South Korean manager’s villa.

The two suspects pleaded not guilty when they appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday.

A police major told prosecutor­s: “A police patrol was dispatched to the robbed villa. We reached the place and discovered that one or more persons had trespassed into the villa from the side of the pool.

“The burglars had broken the door and climbed up to the first floor from where they stole the valuables that were kept in the master bedroom.

“We identified the suspects who had been detained for carrying out a robbery, using the same modus operandi. Upon questionin­g, the two suspects admitted that they had committed the heist in cooperatio­n with a third suspect who remains at large.”

A ruling in the case will be heard on May 31.
